Success Stories
Feras Abdul Majid, a mechanical engineer from Palestine based in Qatar, is an innovator and entrepreneur renowned for his practical and methodical approach to problem-solving. Feras holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Design from the University of Manchester and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University at Qatar.
In 2013, he participated in Stars of Science- Season 5 with his innovation, a Water Cooler Bottle Lift, a device that simplifies the installation of heavy water bottles into coolers. He was awarded 6th place among 10,000 applicants and received patent funding across the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Beyond Stars of Science
Currently, Feras is the Co-Founder and CEO of Alurays Middle East, a leading LED lighting manufacturer based in Doha, Qatar.
Since its inception in 2016, he has spearheaded the company’s growth from a modest 200-square-meter operation to a sprawling 3,000-square-meter top-tier factory. Under his leadership, the company's sales surged from 1 million QAR in the first year to 15 million QAR in 2021. His efforts were instrumental in Alurays being shortlisted for the 2021 Innovation Award by the Qatar Development Bank.
Feras’s latest projects involved lighting products developed for significant World Cup infrastructure, including the Corniche Street Lights and Lusail Boulevard. Although these innovations were not patented, they significantly contributed to Qatar's World Cup preparations.
Feras personal reflection
Reflecting on his journey with Stars of Science, Feras credits the program with boosting his confidence and providing the foundation to build his company and foster innovation. Despite not advancing far in the program, the experience of working alongside brilliant minds was invaluable and deeply impactful on his professional development.
