"Every problem must have a solution!" says Mugeb Alharosh. Mugeb grew up pursuing academic excellence, finishing high school as the top student in his region in Taizz Governate, Yemen. His outstanding performance allowed him to pursue biomedical engineering up to the doctorate level in Russia. A true believer in science, Mugeb is driven by innovative ideas related to incurable diseases. An avid fan of Stars of Science, he followed the journeys of fellow Arabs since the show first aired in 2008. Inspired by their successes, he worked tirelessly on an idea, and in 2021, he finally had his Eureka moment!

Project & Impact

Chronic Kidney Disease is a deadly condition that is hard to diagnose early, as one kidney compensates for the other's deterioration, often resulting in normal test results until irreversible damage occurs. Mugeb's Portable Renal Blood Flowmeter addresses this by using skin-attached biosensors to translate impedance data into renal blood flow and pressure for preliminary diagnosis. This non-invasive device enhances telemedicine by sending data to physicians via wireless networks, allowing remote patient monitoring. It aims to alleviate suffering by enabling early detection and intervention, especially in rural areas of the Middle East and North Africa, while reducing the global financial burden on national health systems dedicated to dialysis treatment.

Aftermath of SoS

Following his impressive journey on Stars of Science, Mugeb Alharosh has continued to excel in the field of biomedical technology. Currently an associate professor, he is deeply involved in cutting-edge research and development. His ongoing projects include:

  • Renal Blood Flowmeter: Continuing his work on this innovative device to improve early diagnosis of kidney conditions.
  • Cuffless Blood Pressure Monitoring System: Developing a non-invasive method for accurate blood pressure measurement.
  • Robotic Devices for Automated Venipuncture: Creating robotic solutions to enhance precision and efficiency in drawing blood.
  • Mugeb's research is consistently published and can be accessed on Scopus.

In addition to his own projects, Mugeb serves as a Scientific Consultant for various research groups, contributing to the development of new medical technologies and driving economic progress. His work not only reflects his commitment to innovation but also the lasting impact of his participation in Stars of Science.
