In 2001, the State of Qatar and Canada's College of the North Atlantic established a technical institution designed to meet the training needs of business and industry in Qatar. College of the North Atlantic – Qatar opened its Doha campus in 2002, offering diploma programs in Business Studies, Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, and Information Technology. In 2004, a highly specialized Technician Preparatory Program began training Qataris for positions in the oil and gas sector. Today, CNA-Q is indisputably Qatar's premier technical training institution.
During the 2012-2013 academic year, 2,100 students were enrolled in full-time courses. CNA-Q now employs more than 450 instructors, allowing for smaller classes and more personal one-on-one instruction.
